Ipswich, Massachusetts, USA

There's an Ipswich in Massachusetts, USA. The link is to the official town site, and there's a great site at http://www.ipswichma.com/ which has more pictures, and more information for tourists. It's in the county of Essex (!) about 30 miles from Boston, and was settled in 1633, with a principal leader called John Winthrop, who came from our Ipswich. These early settlers took over the native population's settlement, which was known as Agawam.

Early settlers were farmers, but you can get a sense that the skills of the old world were present. They fished, took molasses from the West Indies and started a distillery and started making lace, later smuggling in the first stocking-making machine (in 1822) to America.

It's a proud place, proud that it still has 58 houses built before 1725 - perhaps our local officials should muse upon the need to preserve heritage as they rip apart our docks, and allow apartment blocks to reach for the sky. What shall we leave for our children?

Welcome Ipswich, MA. We'd love to hear from you. After all, deep down, somewhere, we probably share some DNA.

Ipswich Wednesday presenters

We'll face up to you one day soon - but it may not be a pretty site. Paul presents the Electric Mushroom show at ICR, www.icrfm.co.uk, on Mondays from 9am. Trevor follows on, with 30 minutes of pure drivel: well he says he talks about theatre in Ipswich, but he also plays some strange music. He's got a web site at www.lockwoods.co.uk and is putting together the radio station for Felixstowe at www.felixstoweradio.co.uk He also publishes books - see www.braiswick.com

Ipswich Community Radio

Hello worldi: we are about to start radio broadcasts on 105.7 FM around the Ipswich, Suffolk, England area, and will still be online at www.icrfm.co.uk

This Blog is for the Wednesday breakfast show: on air every Wednesday (that's cool) from 7-10am GMT.

Hosted by Paul and Trevor it will provide easy but interesting listening as you crawl out of bed in the morning and make your way to work.

This is community radio - we don't aim to make any money - we are volunteers. Paul and Trevor will interview local people, give you a flavour of what's on at the theatre, talk to a few politicians to find out what makes them tick, and there'll be news, weather, and traffic reports provided by Avenue Taxis - who are the guys who really know what the roads are like in the morning, add chats about food, perhaps some poetry, a few jokes, and we'll help you get to work feeling happy.

We start live broadcasts at ICR on 24 May - we'll be in the town square from 12 noon, where you can meet some of the 90 presenters we'll have working on the station.

Community radio brings people together - you can join in too.
